Neurophysiology

Clinical Neurophysiology comprises special techniques which measure the electrical characteristics of brain, nerve and muscle to assist in the diagnosis or localisation of neurological disease.  These office based evaluations add to the clinical and other investigatory findings.

Nerve conduction studies show how well the body’s electrical signals are travelling to a nerve.  Surface electrodes are used and apply small electrical pulses to the nerve which reflect how the nerve is working.  These pulses cause a quick, mild tingling feeling.

Needle electromyography (EMG) is where a small thin needle is put in several muscles of the affected area.  During the test the Doctor will be able to see how your muscles and nerves are working byt the way electrical signals travel from the needle to the EMG machine.

EEG

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that measures electrical activity in the brain using electrodes that are attached to the scalp. Brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even during sleep. This activity can be traced during an EEG recording.

Botox Treatment

Botulinum (Botox) treatment is valuable for the treatment of specific involuntary movement disorders, spasticity and migraines.  Dr Saines does not undertake cosmetic Botox therapy.
